FLOYD ALLEN BROOKS was born on June 7, 1931 in Springfield, Oregon, the son of William Calvin and Mary Matilda (Dorman) Brooks. Floyd grew-up in the Springfield and Walton areas, and graduated from Elmira High School in 1949. He joined the U. S. Army in 1950 and served until he was discharged in 1951. He worked on his parent's farm, a logging company, and survey crews until he attended Oregon Technical Institute, receiving his degree in land surveying. Floyd surveyed all over the Pacific Northwest and Southwest until moving to Alaska in 1974, working for the Bureau of Land Management for over thirty years until he retired at the age of fifty five.
Floyd was a Life Time Member of the National Rifle Association, and the Oregon Historical Society. He enjoyed reading, wood working, dancing and many outdoor activities. He was very interested in history, especially WWII, and specifically in the Pacific Theater.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and Bill Brooks, sisters, Clara Powell, Ella Morrison, Wilma Brooks and Mary Wall.
Survivors include sisters, Lois Brooks and Patty Disbrow of Yamhill, Oregon, brothers-in-law, Jay Disbrow of Yamhill, Oregon, and Ed Morrison of Milton-Freewater, Oregon.
