HELEN MARIE MARTIN was born September 9, 1930 in Portland, Oregon, the daughter of the late Joseph Meek Shinn and Alberta Maude (Eastridge) Shinn. She was raised and received her education in Portland, Oregon, having been a graduate of the Portland Union Academy, Class of 1948. Upon her high school graduation, Helen attended Walla Walla College in College Place, Washington. She was united in marriage to Stanley “Kent” Martin on April 7, 1951 in Camp Cooke, California. Following their marriage they made their home in Portland, Oregon. They later divorced. Helen had worked as an Office Manager for Dr. Moir Budden, a vascular surgeon in Milwaukie, Oregon. She had worked for the doctor from 1987 to 2007, when she retired. Among her special interests she enjoyed gardening and her work. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; by her son, Michael Martin; and her sister, Barbara “Barb” Garcia. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Karen D. and Jeff Clement, of Forest Grove, Oregon; her son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Elena Martin, of Klawock, Alaska; and her brother and sister-in-law, Joseph Lee and Patricia Shinn, of Redmond, Oregon. Also surviving are her five grandchildren and a spouse, Benjamin L. and his fiancee’, Amanda Ross, of Manhattan, New York; Amanda M. and David Carter, of Cornelius, Oregon; Andrew M. Clement, of Forest Grove, Oregon; Arthur Martin and Marcus Martin, both of Klawock, Alaska; her two great-grandchildren, Holland Carter and Jackson Carter, both of Cornelius, Oregon; and ten nieces and nephews. The family suggests that remembrances may be made to the Susan J. Komen Cancer Research, Oregon & SW Washington Affiliate, 1400 SW 5th Avenue, Suite 530, Portland, OR 97201, in her memory.
