JOHN DAVID ROBERTON was born February 10, 1912 in Tacoma, Washington, the son of the late Hugh Robertson and Margaret (Dalrymple) Robertson. He was raised and received his education in Tacoma, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1930. Upon his high school graduation he attended Washington State University for two years, taking courses in engineering.
He was a Veteran of World War II, having served one enlistment in the United States Army, until he received his discharge.
John was united in marriage to Margaret Elizabeth �Betty� Arnold on September 5, 1945 in Forest Grove, Oregon. Following their marriage they resided in the Garden Home District of Portland, until 1996 when they moved to the Alterra Wynwood Retirement Community (known today as Brookdale Senior Living community) in Forest Grove, Oregon, where he has resided since.
He was preceded in death by his wife,�Betty�, on October 12, 2002 at Hillsboro, Oregon, after celebrating over fifty-seven years of marriage together.
John had worked as a Surveyor for the Grand Coulee Dam and later as a Structural Engineer for the Bonneville Power Administration in Portland. He had worked for the B.P.A. for 37 years until retiring in 1972.
He was an active member of the Forest Grove Gospel Hall since 1945. Among his special interests he enjoyed woodcarving and gardening, especially caring for his roses. John also enjoyed carpentry as he constructed their home in Garden Home, which they resided in from 1946 to 1996.
John was also preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Mary Robertson and Barbara Friz.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Maryellen C. and John M. Weimer, of Howard, Pennsylvania; his son, Mark A. Robertson, of Forest Grove, Oregon; and his sister-in-law and spouse, Ellen P. and Kenneth A. Bump, of Forest Grove, Oregon.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
The family suggests that remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 2823, Portland, Oregon 97208, or to the Union Gospel Mission, 18141 N.E. Glisan Street, Portland, Oregon 97230, or to the Portland Rescue Mission, 10336 N.E. Wygant Street, Portland, Oregon 97220, in his memory.
